Chef’s Story of Blazin’ Soul Kitchen.
I interviewed the chef of Blazin’ Soul Kitchen in Ascot, and wrote his story (below). He is using it for competition purposes as he seeks to win the multiple awards for 2023.
Here is chef’s story…
‘Chef grew up on a farm in Ewarton St Catherine, Jamaica, and he learned to cook from the best. His family. As a boy he would look after the chickens, then watch his Grandma, Miss Pearly, cook at home every day on the farm. The farm supplied produce to his other Grandma, Miss B, for her restaurant in Kingston, Jamaica. Not Kingston-on-Thames! Chef learned it all, from scratch to the belly.
He moved to the UK before travelling the world, opening doors to food fusion, on a cooking apprenticeship. Having started up a host of restaurants for others, it was time to create one for himself. He discovered a derelict, former tea room in Ascot. Out of this, Blazin’ Soul Kitchen was born and bred into how it looks now.
Chef hunts for his ingredients in all the local and London food markets. His expertise allows him to choose the right foods in their best seasons.
Blazin' Soul Kitchen is not just about serving delicious, authentic Caribbean food, it's an education, and a celebration. The menu doesn't stand still, so always look out for something new.
From the beginners to the accomplished, everybody is welcome to experience Blazin’ Soul Kitchen. It’ll leave you wanting to come back for more. ‘Inna di morrows’ as we say.
One thing Chef must remember… if Miss Pearly or Miss B visit, get it right. Grandma always knows best. De olda de moon, de brighter it shines.’
